Heart external pressure, First-aid for Heart attack
published date: 2019-7-19      Hits: 3105

In a heart attack, the patient can die within 5 to 10 minutes if without immediate emergency treatment. The new cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) guidelines recommend that patients be given external cardiac pressure without artificial respiration first. The survival rate is 22% higher than the traditional method.

Jiang zhongxiang, former President of the Hong Kong college of cardiology, said that the first five minutes of a heart attack are the "golden five minutes" of rescue, and survival rate decreases by 10% for every 1 minute delay. The traditional cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedure is to keep the patient breathing unobstructed, then perform artificial respiration, and finally apply external cardiac pressure. But last year, the American heart association issued a new guideline, which recommended 100 external cardiac pressures in the first minute, with a downward pressure range of about 1.5 to 2 inches, no need for artificial respiration.

Jiang would like to point out that the new guidelines can relieve rescuers of worries about artificial respiration, including embarrassment and fear of catching infectious diseases, and help encourage more people to give first aid to patients. More importantly, studies have found that the survival rate of patients under the new guidelines is 22% higher than the traditional method.

In addition, the latest medical research shows that good living habits can reduce the risk of sudden death by 70%.The study tracked the habits of 81,722 women from 1984 to 2010, 321 of whom died suddenly. The study found that non-smokers had a 75 percent lower chance of sudden death than women who smoked at least 25 cigarettes a day.

Mr Jiang urged the citizen  to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including at least two hours of aerobic exercise a week, eating more fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and avoiding smoking to reduce the risk of sudden death.
